I have only been using these batteries less than a week but so far they have worked flawlessly. The battery indicator on the Canon T2i still works as it would with a “Canon” battery. The extra charger is perfect for charging two batteries quickly (one on the supplied charger and one with the one that came with the camera).

I ordered these because I have used the Opteka replacement batteries in my XSi, T1i and now the T2i. The ones for the XSi were bought years ago, and are still working fine, though the camera has been passed on to my daughter. The batteries for the T1i have held up to overseas trips, recharged with different voltages, etc. and are also still going strong. I expect these will do the same.

Of note is that these are true 7.2v batteries (as is the original Canon battery) but are rated at 2000mAH instead of the ~1200mAH of the original Canon battery. This means that you should get more shooting time from each charge. I cannot speak to that yet, since I have not been able to run the charge down on the first battery I have put into the camera. Shooting ~50 test shots at RAW+Large, and ~12 minutes of 1080p video at 30 fps, it has not come off of the full charge indication. I expect these to allow Canon’s charge indicator to work, which is a problem on some of the 7.4v replacement batteries if you read the reviews. The charge indicator in the T1i works perfectly, albeit with a different battery than these. I will update this review if I find an issue with the charge indicator in the camera.

The charger is rated to work from 110-240v 50-60 hz so it should work around the world, just as the Opteka charger with the T1i batteries did. This is handy if you are out of the country and in a different electrical system. It does not have a cord to keep up with as the original Canon charger does.

While these are not as inexpensive as some, I have had excellent experience with multiple Opteka batteries in the past, and expect that the 7.2 v battery will allow the cameras charge indicator to work and maintain the high level of performance I have come to expect.

    Pluses:

7.2v replacement battery should minimize issues with the camera

2000mAH should give more shooting time

costs half of the Canon battery

comes with a charger that should work around the world

    Minuses:

    Not Prime eligible

    UPDATE: 08-12-2010

The battery did finally come down as I shot more test shots, and seemed to work with the charge indicator on the T2i just fine. I then charged it in the supplied charger, and it took approximately 2 hours to reach full charge, so I am unsure where the ’1-hour’ designation comes from. :) Small issue…it works, and works well. Recommended.
