After having an original Panasonic CGA-SOO2A literally expand/bulge and become jammed in my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10K camera (in fairness, the camera is still chugging strong after probably being about 5-6 years old, works like brand new), I knew that I was going to need a replacement for the battery if I were lucky enough to get it free from the camera. In my good fortune I was in fact lucky to extract the dead battery from the camera (and the camera still worked after that, thankfully), and sought these replacements. The batteries that I’m reviewing, thus far, work as expected/hoped. That is to say, they work just as if they were the OEM battery that came with the camera. I give them 5 stars because they just work, the service/delivery was prompt from the vendor through Amazon, and the product appears to be just as good as the original Panasonic and the Maxell backup battery that I have had with the camera for a # of years. I would definitely buy these again down the road.
I just want to give a shout out to everyone that if you own a camera with Lithium Ion batteries, be weary of leaving the batteries inside your cameras for long periods. If you’re as lucky as I was, it’ll work out okay but I can foresee a situation where that would definitely not be the case, and I count my lucky stars that I fell into that realm of the lucky vs. the unlucky. Lithium Ion/Polymer isn’t exactly the exact science that we’re all used to with Alkaline and NiMH batteries (even there, they have their own after-effects with age but we’ve become accustomed/comfortable to their end of life vs. the new technologies). Things can happen. My advice is simple, be extremely careful and be mindful that the worst can potentially happen with this technology, treat ‘em with the utmost of respect they deserve and you’ll get respectable use out of them.
I treated mine with due respect but as I’ve said… leaving them in the camera for long periods can come back to bite you at the most inopportune time if they do happen to fail, I speak from experience. Their failure is like nothing I’ve ever seen as the OEM Panasonic battery expanded (actually broke/cracked the outer plastic casing) to an additional 1/4 of it’s original width and became literally lodged snugly in the camera. While that can seem a bit scary, keep in mind the life of the batteries has probably been about 5-6 years for that particular battery (came with the camera) and other batteries would likely leak or corrode so it’s not necessarily anymore volatile in it’s demise. If your batteries are of around that age range (though still seemingly operational), I would consider purchasing a few of the Lenmar DLP002′s to replace what you have and retire the batteries you’ve been using. You can’t really go wrong, the peace of mind of not having an old battery fail and seize up inside your camera is immeasurable, and the price is definitely right!
I had a Lenmar battery for almost two years and it went dead one fine day without any provocation! I got the battery almost as soon as I had bought the FZ20 in 2006, and had used it interchangably with the Panasonic battery. They both lasted nearly same, maybe slightly longer than the Panasonic.
Even though the Panasonic is still working, and I dont know why the Lenmar failed, I would still get another Lenmar as it is half the price of a Panasonic brand. Bottomline: Cheap, yes, maybe not as reliable as the Panasonic ones.
Charge is not held as in the Panasonic product. Can be removed only with a sharp instrument, an action that can damage the camera housing.
At first I was quite upset with these non-Panasonic batteries in my FZ20 camera. They didn’t seem to hold a charge very well. But after 2-3 complete charge/discharge cycles, they are all performing quite well now. Not quite as much capacity as a Panasonic battery, but for the price a good deal. If your camera’s battery indicator shows only a few minutes of charge when you first use the battery, don’t send it back—charge and discharge it a few times and THEN see how it performs.
I bought this battery in April of 2004 when I bought my Panasonic (Lumix) digital camera so that I would have a spare battery. It has been a great battery, especially for the price. Even after 3 years of use it still holds a long charge, equal to the charge of the original Panasonic battery that came with the camera. Only con I have is that recently the battery has started to expand slightly and is very difficult to remove from the camera now. Even so I will be purchasing another one to replace the old battery as you can’t beat the price.
